Welcome to Ecom Insight, a blog dedicated to growing your e-commerce business.
My name is Adam Morris, and I'm the guy behind EcomInsight.com. I'm a 23 year old CEO of an e-commerce software and services company, Sell Center. I spend most of my time running the company, being an internet marketing advisor, and, of course, blogging.
Entrepreneurial Spirit
I started my first company my freshman year in college: MusicVision. The concept was a set top box that you could purchase digital music and download it to be played on your home theater system. Now this was a time before iTunes, when DRM (Digital Rights Management) was still in its very infancy.
I learned the hard way that if you have a good idea, you have to act on it quickly. By the time we had our patents drawn up for submission, we were already playing against the big boys like Scientific Atlanta and Sony, who were filing similar patents. We had sat on the idea too long, almost two years.
It was a big disappointment, but I bounced back quickly. I drew up a business plan for an upscale chain of eBay stores, when eBay drop off stores were the "in" thing. My partner and I quickly realized, however, that its profitability was unrealistic, so we altered it into a consignment-based liquidation company for business assets. We called it Sell Center.
Sell Center still exists today, but it's changed a great deal. We no longer do liquidations, but instead provide e-commerce management software and consulting services. We've been thinking of changing the name for quite some time, but nothing has struck our fancy. Check us out at http://www.sellcenter.net/. And, if you come up with a better name for us, make sure to share!
